Meeting Minutes
Thursday June 5, 2014

Absent: Bob Dunn, Missy Garvin, Glynn McAraw
1) Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7:03 PM by John Flower.
2) Approval of the April 3, 2014 and May 1, 2014 Minutes
The April and May Minutes were reviewed.
Tim Gavin made a motion, seconded by Nigel Logan, to accept the April 3, 2014 Minutes. The motion passed unanimously.
Nigel Logan made a motion, seconded by Tim Gavin, to accept the May 1, 2014 Minutes. The motion passed unanimously.
3) Program Updates
Don Bugbee provided the following Program updates.
Summer Programs
All information is detailed on the Parks and Recreation Website under Spring/Summer Programs. Programs include Spring Tennis, Summer Daycamp, Baseball Camp, Basketball Camp, Tennis Camp and Soccer Camp. Sign-ups for these Programs are on-going.
Summer Staff
All Summer Staff has been hired. There will be 39 Employees working as Daycamp Counselors, Lifeguards or Parking Lot Attendants. The initial Daycamp Employee meeting was held on May 31 and the Lifeguard meeting will be next week. Parking Lot Attendants are currently working at White Sand beach, Hains park and Cross Lane Park.
4) Park Facilities Update
Don Bugbee provided the following Facilities Updates.
Parks and Recreation Areas
All areas are open and active at this point in time. These areas include Sound View, Cross Lane, White Sand Beach, Hains Park and Town Woods Park.
He met with the Town of Old Lyme CIRMA Representative, Matt Lipp, on site, to review the Parks and Recreation swim areas and operating procedures at both Hains Park and White Sand Beach. The procedures and areas were in compliance and deemed satisfactory. Information about appropriate signage was provided as a guide for reference.
5) Other Old Business
Don Bugbee provided the following update.
Safety Committee (Don Bugbee, Chairman)
The Safety Committee met on June 3, 2014. Discussions included the Town of Old Lyme Emergency Plan, Fire Drills, Safety Poster requirements, Injury Reporting Forms, Bloodborne Pathogen Training and the Safety Committee Goals. The next scheduled (quarterly) meeting is September 9, 2014.
6) New Business
Don Bugbee discussed the following.
Little League
He attended a Lyme/Old Lyme Little League Board meeting on May 27, 2014. His discussions included the Town of Old Lyme Budget process, a suggested 5-year Plan for Little League, the War At The Shore Baseball Tournament and methods to better communicate with Parks and Recreation during the year. All items discussed were productive and well received.
7) Adjourn
Mary Ellen Garbarino made a motion, seconded by Tim Gavin, to adjourn the meeting at 7:30 PM. The motion passed unanimously.
The next Meeting is scheduled for July 3, 2014 at 7:00 PM.
